Breaking to recompose

separator

A film-based project

New York City is the collective dream space that drives crowd movements, at times convulsive and frenzied, bewitched by its own shadows and transparencies. But it is also the space of the moment, of peace and still personal reflection. Cloaked in its iconic beauty and projected into an unstoppable future.

My work there started from a fundamental space: that of film, that of the possible, the space of opportunity, a mental space. The images in this series are made in medium format in NYC in 2016. But the image chosen as the “manifesto” of this work is also the space of self-portrait.

Many years ago a friend de-scribed me as a kind of polyhedron composed of so many facets, everyone saw some of them and few knew most of them, all of them not even me. In this multitude that belongs to me I mirror myself and find space.

Details

“Breaking to recompose” belongs to a series of images made in New York City, for a month I traveled the length and breadth of this city in search of the relationship between people and green spaces, and what emerged was a multifaceted work.

The complete series of over 40 images was all made in 6 x 6 format with a Yashica bioptic, on color and black and white film. The color prints had never been printed until now, and are made lamp-mounted, in analog (in 2022) especially for: Zeropixel Festival Trieste, 17-27 Nov 2022.
